Shin Splints

Shin splints are the aching or burning pain along the inside edge of the shinbone that shows up during or after running. They often appear when you increase mileage quickly, switch shoes, or train on hard surfaces, and they are especially common in newer runners and people training for a race.
How massage can help
Massage relaxes the overworked muscles along the shin and calf that absorb impact with every step. Easing that tension can reduce soreness, improve how your lower legs feel on the next run, and support the rest and gradual return to training that shin splints need.
What to expect
Your therapist works on the calves, the muscles beside the shin, and the feet, avoiding direct pressure on the bone itself. Tell them about your training plan so the session can fit around your next run or race.
Common questions
Can I keep running?
That's a question for your doctor or physical therapist. Massage supports recovery but doesn't replace rest when your legs need it.
Sports or deep tissue massage?
Either works. Book a 60-minute session and your therapist will adjust the technique and pressure to your legs.
When should I see a doctor?
Pain at one specific spot on the bone, pain at rest, or pain that gets worse instead of better can be a sign of a stress fracture. See a doctor before booking.
