Shoulder & Upper Back Pain

Shoulder & Upper Back Pain Massage NYC | ReviTouch FiDi

That knot between your shoulder blades, the tightness along the top of your shoulders, the ache that sets in after a long day at the desk or carrying a heavy bag through the subway — shoulder and upper back pain is one of the most common reasons people come to see us.

How massage can help

Our therapists work on the upper traps, the muscles between the shoulder blades, the rotator cuff and the chest, which often pulls the shoulders forward. Releasing these areas can ease the ache, loosen stiff shoulders and make it easier to sit and move without guarding. Regular sessions can help keep the knots from building back up.

What to expect

We'll ask where it hurts, how long it's been bothering you and what makes it worse — desk work, workouts, sleep position. Your therapist then focuses on the shoulders and upper back, adjusting pressure as you go, and shows you one or two simple stretches for between visits.

Common questions

Can massage help a shoulder injury?
It can ease muscle tension around an injury, but a new or serious injury should be checked by a doctor or physical therapist first. We're happy to work alongside your treatment plan.

Will it hurt?
Working on knots can feel intense, but it should never be sharp. Tell your therapist and they'll adjust right away.

When should I see a doctor?
If you can't lift your arm, the pain follows a fall, or it comes with numbness, tingling or chest pain, see a doctor first.
